"Connecting" issues on latest 8.40.11.30 version.
Re: "Connecting" issues on latest 8.40.11.30 version.
I tried to disable the WMI service and then the login was fast again (did not reboot the server), but several things stopped working (among other the taskkill command which we use, but I could probably find another command for that), but the Universalprinter stops working.
Hmmm....

Hello,
The Universal Printer is based on a OEM version of Cute PDF, so it is possible that the Universal Printer relies on the WMI service to function properly.
Our development team is working on this issue and the Virtual Printer feature available for HTML5 connection will be available for version 9.10 of TSplus. This will replace permanently the Universal Printer and will not rely on WMI.
This 9.10 version is currently in beta and is a work in progress, it will be available for February.

Hi Olivier,... and the Virtual Printer feature available for HTML5 connection will be available for version 9.10 of TSplus. This will replace permanently the Universal Printer and will not rely on WMI.
Our customers all use the HTML5 Client and also use the Universal Printer a lot.
They don't like the "Virtual Printer" and prefer the "Universal Printer".
So what does this mean?! It's very important that the Universal Printer will be supported.
Best regards
Jeffrey

Hello Jeffrey,
Every aspect of this transition will be taken into account, we will not remove permanently the Universal Printer just yet and the beta for this version is not quite ready yet.

Re: "Connecting" issues on latest 8.40.11.30 version.
Hi Olivier,
Please sign me up for beta, since currently any beta version would probably be faster than the current version. And we are using the universal printer a lot, since most of our connections currently are using the seamless/remoteapp. Only a few users are using the HTML5.

I was wondering if you have noticed the behavior on version 9.30.4.27 ? I havent' been able to update all my servers yet and am still running with WMI turned off. My hosting provider changed some things on their end and are requesting WMI be turned on at all times... I"m hoping for better results on the latest. Let me know if you would either way, and if you are just turning off WMI for now or how you are working around the issue.
Thanks,
Brian
Re: "Connecting" issues on latest 8.40.11.30 version.
UPDATE -- PLease help! I have upgraded to version 9.30.5.9
The server runs great with WMI enabled with only a few users connected.
Once 30 - 40 users get logged in, WMI starts acting up and login times start suffering, taking 30 seconds or so to login (Not terrible).
Once 65-70 users get logged in, WMI goes off the charts and consumes %80-100 of CPU constantly. Login times will change from 30 seconds to 2- 5 minutes -- not good!!
I disable WMI and everything runs good. CPU drops to it's normal %5-35 and logins go back to approx 15 seconds, even with 72 current connections. I will have about 100 connections in about another hour here and will be testing logins again. EDIT - currently at 94 users, login time is 10-15 seconds w/out WMI enabled.
Can TSPLUS Support please PLEASE look into this WMI Issue. I am pretty sure earlier in this post, I was able to find what WMI was scanning when a user is logging in. We need WMI enabled for VMTools and other apps to run...
Thanks,
Brian

Hello,
WMI is a Windows service use to provide various performance measurements, unfortunately it is also known to decrease a server's performance which is why it is best to disable it.

Re: "Connecting" issues on latest 8.40.11.30 version.
Oliver - WMI is required to run on our servers for VM Tools and other monitoring software. please see my post below from page 2. There must be information TSPLUS is programmed to gather when a user logs in, bc it is using WMI to do so. However, there seems to be a bug in the process, since " it created 283,243 events of this over and over." from below.
Simply turning it off unfortunately is no longer an option.

Brian wrote:Doing further research - this appears to be a WMI issue...
While using Process Monitor I have found that when a user belongs to the Administrators group, WMI is only tracing the following:
HKLM
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Perflib
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\PERFLIB
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\PERFLIB\Disable Performance Counters
HKU\S-1-5-18
HKU\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\International
HKU\.DEFAULT
HKU\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\International\LocaleName
HKU\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\International
It does this (according to the counter of events) 515 when I login with my user 'test' as an administrator, maybe 10 seconds max login time.
When I remove my user from the Administrators group, WMI does this:
Operations FOR C:\Windows\System32\tzres.dll:
QueryOpen
CreateFile
QueryBasicInformationFile
CloseFile
IRP_MJ_CLOSE
CreateFile
CreateFileMapping
QueryStandardInformationFile
FASTIO_RELEASE_FOR_SECTION_SYNCHRONIZATION
CreateFileMapping
FASTIO_RELEASE_FOR_SECTION_SYNCHRONIZATION
CloseFile
IRP_MJ_CLOSE
Some Errors when performing these operations:
C:\Windows\System32\tzres.dll FAST IO DISALLOWED on QueryOpen FILE LOCKED WITH ONLY READERS
C:\Windows\System32\tzres.dll FILE LOCKED WITH ONLY READERS on CreateFileMapping
Now, I've let this file create a log of these events for approx 10 seconds out of the full 60+ seconds it's sitting at "RDP 15%" and it created 283,243 events of this over and over.
So the question becomes, why is WMI tracing all this activity and how can we reduce it drastically (such as the administrator accounts) or stop it all together??
