TSPlus Java login via Google Chrome

Post by AadGouka » Mon Jul 20, 2015 4:45 pm

Hi there,

I'm using Java to login to the TSPlus server, so our customers can use there browser to run the applications. As of version
42, Chrome does not longer support NPAPI, so customers can not login via Chrome.

Can anybody advise me what to do from here.

Best regards,

Aad

Hi Aad,

We only use the HTML5 Web Client for years now and this works with all browsers, so no need for Java.
We never used the Java Web or Windows Web clients, because sometimes Java didn't work at some of our customers.

So my advise would be: use the HTML5 client.
I have read that the TSplus team is working on a solution in version 8.40 (expected: September 2015) where Java won't be needed at all for the Java Web/Windows Web clients:
---
"For your information, the release 8.40 announcement is scheduled for September 2015.
At this time, Chrome stops the support of Java applets as well as the new W10 IE.
The major enhancement of the release 8.40 will be to eliminate the use Java Applets for the Java and for the Windows web clients."

---
Best regards
Jeffrey

Hello,

You will find below the workaround provided by Google Chrome :

NPAPI support by Chrome
The Java plug-in for web browsers relies on the cross platform plugin architecture NPAPI, which has long been, and currently is, supported by all major web browsers. Google announced in September 2013 plans to remove NPAPI support from Chrome by "the end of 2014", thus effectively dropping support for Silverlight, Java, Facebook Video and other similar NPAPI based plugins. Recently, Google has revised their plans and now state that they plan to completely remove NPAPI by late 2015. As it is unclear if these dates will be further extended or not, we strongly recommend Java users consider alternatives to Chrome as soon as possible. Instead, we recommend Firefox, Internet Explorer and Safari as longer-term options. As of April 2015, starting with Chrome Version 42, Google has added an additional step to configuring NPAPI based plugins like Java to run — see the section Enabling NPAPI in Chrome Version 42 and later below.
Solution :

Enabling NPAPI in Chrome Version 42 and later

As of Chrome Version 42, an additional configuration step is required to continue using NPAPI plugins.

In your URL bar, enter:
chrome://flags/#enable-npapi
Click the Enable link for the Enable NPAPI configuration option.
Click the Relaunch button that now appears at the bottom of the configuration page.

Developers and System administrators looking for alternative ways to support users of Chrome should see this blog, in particular "Running Web Start applications outside of a browser" and "Additional Deployment Options" section.

Hi Jeffrey,

Thank you for reply. Ik know I can use HTML5, but the drawback is that I can not use TSCLIENT, so
localdrives are not mapped. We use this so users can keep documents locally.

So using HTML5 would be preferable, but we have to figure out a workaround.

Best regards,

Aad

Hello Admin,

Thank you for your suggestion, but it will only work until version 45 is released.
As I mentioned above we need to make a switch to HTML5.

Thanks again.

Best regards,
