Re: UniversalPrinter not working at 9.60
Hello,
Server: 2012R2
I just upgraded:
- From 9.60.12.12 -> UniversalPrinter = OK
- To 9.70.12.21 -> UniversalPrinter not working anymore!!
Also, UniversalPrinter.exe is not running, so what's going on?
I need a solution very soon please.
I also tried Setup-UniversalPrinter.exe and did a reboot after that, but still the same problem.
So the Universal Printer doesn't work anymore with a TSplus generated Client.exe, but it does work ok with the HTML5 Client.
BTW: It's no option for us to uninstall TSplus on this server; there has to be another solution.
EDIT2: Also NOT working anymore on our other TSplus server with Windows 10 Pro.
Help!!
Best regards
Jeffrey

Hi,
There's a known problem with the UP in the latest update. You have to roll back to an
earlier version. It's handy to save your updates in case you have to roll back.
I don't know when they have a solution for this.
Best regards,
Aad

Re: UniversalPrinter not working at 9.60
Hi Aad,
I have sent the support team a mail with info how they can access my system, so hopefully they will find the cause and come with a solution.
This is very annoying, not be able to print to the Universal Printer with a generated connection Client.exe.
Best regards
Jeffrey

Hi Jeffrey,
Let us know if they can solve it and if so, what was done. Today they delivered a new update,
but nothing was mentioned about the UP-problem.

Re: UniversalPrinter not working at 9.60
Hello,
According to me the Universal Printer has new "new" known issue.
The key points to keep in minds are the following:
1) If the user see a progress bar what does it means?
It means that the Universal Printer driver, on the server side has done his job properly.
The prints has been turned into a PDF file.
This PDF file has been detected as a new file by the unversalpritner.exe process
The uninversalprinter.exe process has done his job: Copy the PDF to the user local disk drive using a \\tsclient\c\... command
2) On the user side now:
The generated client is looking for a new PDF file created on C:\Users\xxxxxxxx\RDP6\MyPDFprinting. folder
As soon the file is received the generated client do the proper job to print it locally
Now, having that in mind:
If the user do not get any prints on his PC, AND, if he have see a progress bar, it clearly means that the problem is on the user side.
- Option 1:
There was an issue in the clip board at the session startup.
The first thing the Connection Client is doing when he start a session is to copy in the clipboard the target folder on the user local disk drive
(C:\Users\xxxxxxxx\RDP6\MyPDFprinting). If this information has not be read on the server side it may explain the problem
- Option 2:
The Generated Client is a old one.
We did change the handler of the received PDF files several times during the past years.
The last time was 3 months ago to warrant the printing even if there was a reconnected session.
I recommend to do a test with a new generated client to be sure that the problem is not just a matter of our new handler.
- Option 3:
The printing mode, on the client side is not PREVIEW, but Select, or print on default printer.
In such case, the Generated client is using a local software to process the requested print.
3 months ago we did stop to use the OEM version of VeryPDF and we replaced it by Sumatra.
On some PC's it sometime request to start 2 times the connection client prior to get Sumatra "ready to go".
Why? I do not know but I did observe this kind of unusual behavior several times.
- Option 4:
Security software or restrictions set on the using PC. If an anti-virus, or security rules prevent the PDF file to be written in C:\Users\xxxxxxxx\RDP6\MyPDFprinting, or, if the anti-virus is blocking Sumatra, the print will not happen as expected. Sad, but possible.
More or less that's all.
However, for your information, we are working on a completly new technology for the Universal Printer whihc will be released, most probably in January 2017.
Kind regards
John
