"Connecting" issues on latest 8.40.11.30 version.

Post by Brian » Fri Dec 11, 2015 5:22 pm

Hi Everyone,

When my users attempt to connect via HTML 5, they get the progress bar up at the top right. It moves to "RDP: 15%" and sits there for about 60 seconds before allowing them to login. Is anyone else seeing this slow behavior? This is on 8.40.11.30 version.

We did not have this slowness back on 8.10.2.12. Nothing else on the server has been changed.

This may or maynot be related to my logonsession.exe issue i have posted:
tsplus.net/forum/posting.php?mode=post&f=8

The CPU is not maxed out at %100 while users are trying to login, so it's not a CPU issue when connecting, but something is causing it to go very slow.

Anyone else seeing these issues?

Hi Brian,
We're seeing this as well. I've not been able to figure out what the issue is. It's also happening for SeamlessRDP/RemoteApp connections, but the load time is actually longer than with HTML5.
I wasn't running 8.10 and only took over the administration of the server in August. We're also running 8.40.11.30
One thing I've noticed, if no-one is connected, the first connection is very fast, but the more users who're connected, the slower the login gets. Once people are logged in everything is super fast. The CPU load is 10-30% and RAM is 40%-60% on a 16CPU 32GB RAM. We're sharing printers and files through the session, which is needed.
I've been running Sysinternal's Process Monitor on logins and can see the logonsession.exe is doing multiple checks to the same files and looping through printers multiple times, but I've not been able to pin point the exact problem, since the different loops only looks like it's adding a few extra seconds.

Hello,

This issue has been fixed in the new release available today.

Please download and install this update for TSPlus : tsplus.net/UpdateRelease.exe
Make sure no users are logged in before installing this update, you can check for remote users by launching a task manager and clicking on the users tab. Disabling your anti virus is also recommended.
A reboot will be required.

Thank you for the update - will try to add it tonight. Is there anything else that has changed, which we should look out for?

Still slow login. I get RDP 10% and it sits there for about 30 seconds. I only have 42 current users. Will test again when it gets up to 80 and see if it takes even longer. Also, It automatically set my license to 'expired' for support. I have 2 days left per my order. Since it is expired the license it won't allow me to change the default printer..
I'll be putting my order in for 4 support renewals hopefully today or tomorrow.

EDIT: the Administrator account logs in right away. it's only the users that this is taking anywhere from 30 - 60 seconds to login. There is another issue when users are hitting the X and closing their browser... I'll be creating a support ticket for that one. My order for the license is done. Still cannot see any printer options. Will open support ticket.

It was really fast (I've only tested on HTML5) with 15 connections, but didn't test with RDP.

But I've noticed one thing, the GPO stuff has kinda been reset. My time out was 600m before, now it's 1m. And the "session per user" radio selections are not set now, before it was "second session will capture the first one".
I then restored the settings (without restarting the server, since there's now 38 connections) and now I see the "RDP 10%" like Brian also does and it stalls for about 45 seconds on that.

That is the same GPO setting I have. "Only one session per user: The second session will capture the first one"
I also have "allow automatic reconnections when a session is disconnected" checked.

It's incrementally getting worse, the more users I have connected. We're at 71 active connections and now a HTML5 login takes 2min51sec.
By the way, CPU is 18%-26% and RAM is steady at 59%.
Windows 2012R2 with 16CPU and 32RAM.

Can you please explain what was changed in 8.40.12.14? Is there something else we could/should test? Do you want a Sysinternal Process Monitor Log?

Any updates on this? My users are not happy with the slow HTLM5 logins. For what it's worth, An administrator account logs in very quickly. Only users accounts are slow. My users are assigned 1 application only.
