Cannot make active the window inwhich the RDP works

Remoteapp client loads published program correctly on fresh install of windows xp professional service pack 3 remote computer. However, windows xp seems to make the remote connection window inactive. By this I mean I click on the published application after the RDP has opened it perfectly and it does not respond to the mouse. I right click on the application in the windows task bar and the restore window option is grayed out as are all the options but close window. The published application itself loads and starts up perfectly and displays itself perfectly waiting to be used but I cannot interact with it at all. I can't minimise or restore or make it respond to the mouse its as if the program had been clicked away from back on to the real desktop of the computer and all I need do is click or restore the remote connection and all would be well. But I can't interact with it at all. I can bring the open published program to the front of the screen by clicking on it but I can't actually use the program in any way.
-My RDP client has been generated to run the desired published program from the server perfectly, as it works on other pcs and used to work on this exact pc before the fresh install of windows xp.
-I have Zero antivirus software installed as I don't need it on this computer as it is purely a slave to run this one program.
-Its not a mouse driver error as key board strokes don't activate the window either. Its as if the window itself from which the program runs has its activity disabled somehow?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
