Distorted printing through RemoteApp
One of our clients has reported that printing through remote app produces output that looks like the printer cartridges are failing, ie, 50 or so thin horizontal white lines throughout the page. (They are printing to laser printers which aren't short of toner)
This occurs no matter the type of document being printed.
HTML5 printing works fine, the document is produced perfectly.
Can you offer any suggestions as to what might be causing this?
Thanks,
John

Hello,
Could you confirm that this happens with redirected printers and not the Universal Printer ?
Using standard redirection can be tricky, because many prerequisites must be met in order for it to work. Printer redirection is not supported with the use of HTML5 and the TSplus Mobile App.
You need to install the exact same version of device drivers on client side and server side.
This means if your server is installed with 2012 x64 but your client computers are installed with Windows XP x32, you will need to add manually these drivers on your server by editing the print server properties and add x32 drivers for XP.
For best results, it is also recommended not to use USB printers but prefer COM or LPT or network printers.
If you are using USB printers, make sure you updated the RDP protocol of your client computer to 6 or above to ensure maximum compatibility with redirected printers.
Even with all this in mind that some printers may not be suitable to be redirected in a TSplus session, therefore you may need to look into specific procedure to install these printers in RDS / terminal server environment, which is very close to TSplus in this case.

Re: Distorted printing through RemoteApp
Thanks for your reply.
I can confirm this is occurring with the Universal Printer and that they are network printers.
The client says they are Xerox WorkCentre 5955’s and Work Centre 7855. If we install drivers for them will that make a difference if they are already using the Universal Printer?
My understanding is that the Universal Printer generates a pdf file. Is that correct?
Thanks,
John

Re: Distorted printing through RemoteApp
Hello,
You are correct, the Universal Printer generates a PDF from the print job and transfer it to the client.
If you are using the Universal Printer and are having an issue with print format, you need to first check the PDF reader you are using on client side. If it is Adobe Acrobat, remove it and install a different one such as FoxIt.
You can also check the driver you are using. CustPDF is the old one and GhostPDF is the new one. This can be checked in the admin tool / server tile / Printer management.
If CustPDF is installed, remove the Universal Printer driver and reinstall the new one.

Re: Distorted printing through RemoteApp
Thanks I will check the PDF readers they are using.
We don't have the admin tool / server tile / Printer management option. We are running version 10.40 of TSPlus with Universal Printer V3. I don't like upgrading unless I really have to since the users have to download the plugin again. I got complaints the last time I upgraded it. Is there another way of checking CustPDF / GhostPDF?
Is there a newer version of the Universal Printer I can install without making the users upgrade their plugins?
Thanks,
John

Hello,
You can verify the version of Universal Driver also by opening a control panel / printer. Select the Universal Printer and click on "Print server properties". Click on the driver tab, you should see either CustPDF or Ghostscript. Ghostscript is the new driver, supports more print format and shows to be more stable than CustPDF, thought CustPDF is still preferred by some customers so we kept both options.
If you are using an older version of TSplus, go to add / remove program in the control panel and look for universal printer, click uninstall and reboot. You can also force the uninstall by clicking on the removeuniversalprinter.exe located in C:\Program Files (x86)\TSplus\UserDesktop\files
You will be able to reinstall the Universal printer after rebooting by clicking on installuniversalprinter.exe

Re: Distorted printing through RemoteApp
Thanks, we are using the Ghostscript driver, so its not that.
How does the printing differ using RemoteApp and HTML5. Does the file get generated in the same way? The HTML5 printing works fine, its the RemoteApp that doesn't.
Can you offer any other clues?
Thanks,
John

Re: Distorted printing through RemoteApp
Hello,
The process is slightly different with HTML5 since local disks are not redirected in the session for the print transfer.
- Make sure the disk are correctly redirected in the remote session. This can be checked in the local ressources tab of the client generator. You can also edit your connection client's settings with this procedure to check the presence of the "-disk on"parameter : https://www.terminalserviceplus.com/doc ... ted-client
- Make sure your antivirus is not preventing the transfer of the print job.
On server side, you may need to set an exclusion rule in your antivirus on the following path : C:\Program Files (86)\TSPlus and C:\wsession
On client side the exclusion is to be set the following path : C:\Users\Nameoftheuser\RDP6
